C2C Survey Results

Thanks to the 56 individuals who participated in the C2C survey. I’ve placed the results to most questions below.

- 80% prefer the Coast to Coast continue to be unsupported (46 respondents)
- 80% don’t want to see more than one course option when registering (46 respondents)
- 78% believe it is very important or somewhat important that friends and family participate as volunteers or support crew (46 respondents)
- 41% prefer race month to be in May followed by 17% for April (46 respondents)
- 61% prefer the Thursday – Monday schedule (46 respondents)
- 61% prefer a holiday weekend (46 respondents)
- 72% want to see next year’s race to be in Northern Florida (46 respondents)
- 72% rate the course as good or excellent (43 respondents)
- 61% stated the course was a bit too long, 26% said just right, and 14% way too long (43 respondents)
- 77% responded the distances between TAs was right on (43 respondents)
- 44% felt that the overall quality of maps was good, 30% fair, 9.3% excellent (43 respondents)
- 72% felt that the passport instructions were good or excellent (43 respondents)
- 63% felt the TA/CPs were correctly placed (43 respondents)
- 42% felt the CP should be visible within 35 feet, 40% within 100 feet, and 18% within ten feet (43 respondents)
- 98% felt the course was support crew friendly (43 respondents)
- 53% prefer the 6am start, 47% a midnight start (43 respondents)
- 49% felt the navigation was just right, 42% a bit too difficult (43 respondents)
- 98% felt the registration process was organized (43 respondents)
- 91% felt enough information was provided during pre race briefing (42 respondents)
- 77% felt the logistics of the race was excellent or good (43 respondents)
- 93% thought it was helpful posting support crew instructions on leaderboard (43 respondents)
- 81% thought that the web leaderboard updates were good or excellent (43 respondents)
- 91% thought the race start hotel was good or excellent (43 respondents)
- 90% thought the race end hotel was good or excellent (43 respondents)
- 58% thought the award ceremony was good, 30% fair, 5% excellent (43 respondents)

We will take these results in addition to other feedback received via email, the message board, and discussions in drafting next years race.

Continue? You mean start to be? It hasn't been unsupported for at least the last three years.

This one confuses me. People want the race to be unsupported (as the first quote states) but they also want to involve their family and friends? Which is it? Pick one people! You can't have it both ways! :D

Ten feet? Really? That is orienteering map resolution not 1/100k or even 1/24 depending on the quality of the map. The size of the ink blot from the pen used to mark the map is representatively larger than that.

The Howl at the Moon 2006 had challenging navigation. The terrain and the numerous trails provided a large number of confusing options that demanded excellent attention from the navigator. It avoided the "check out that bush" game that is occasionally substituted for actual navigation in AR.

AC knocked it out of the park with the Howl and I for one am extremely excited to see what they come up with for C2C07.
